Through the Eyes of a Child
Speaking to a Holocaust survivor is a life-changing event for many. For Picking Up the Pieces Director, Joshua Tebeau it was the beginning of a journey of discovery and understanding.
As a 14-year old, Joshua met with a child survivor at the American School of Warsaw. He was shocked to learn from his meeting, and those of his colleagues, how children had survived in hiding, often unaware of their Jewish identity. His surprise was further heightened when he learned the story of his grandmother, who had hidden on the outskirts of Warsaw with her nanny. Joshua's grandmother had passed away when he was 2 years old. Like many Jewish Child Survivors, she had not widely shared her memories and much of her story was lost. Joshua decided to make the a short film about Child Survivors to better understand her experience.
